Hurtado Delivers $1 Million to Help Transform Kingsburg Building Into New City Hall, Emergency Operations…
KINGSBURG, Calif. (September 29, 2026)—State Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Bakersfield) joined City of Kingsburg leaders for a $1 million ceremonial check presentation for the design and renovation of a vacant insurance building into Kingsburg’s new City Hall and Emergency Operations Center.
The new facility will bring municipal operations together in one space while also providing a dedicated place for city leaders, first responders and partner agencies to coordinate during emergencies and disasters. The new building will help to maintain continuity of essential public services when the community needs them most.
“Kingsburg looked at what taxpayers were getting for their money and found a smarter path forward,” Senator Hurtado said. “Instead of starting from scratch, this investment turns an existing building into a modern City Hall and Emergency Operations Center that will help the community prepare for the challenges ahead. The threats facing our communities are changing — from cybercrime and water security to new pressures on families and children — and our local infrastructure must be ready to respond. This project saves money today while strengthening Kingsburg’s ability to meet the challenges of tomorrow. I am proud to have secured this money for the people of Kingsburg.”
Rather than construct an entirely new facility, Kingsburg purchased the existing building and plans to adapt it for municipal operations and emergency response. This approach provides the city with significantly more space at substantially less cost than the previously studied new-construction option, allowing local and state dollars to go further while keeping City Hall in the heart of downtown.
“This $1 million investment represents an important commitment to Kingsburg’s future, and we are incredibly grateful to Senator Hurtado for her leadership and continued partnership in helping our community create a City Hall and Emergency Operations Center that will serve residents for generations to come,” Kingsburg Mayor Staci Smith said.
The Emergency Operations Center will provide a dedicated location for city leaders, first responders and partner agencies to coordinate during major emergencies and disasters.
“A modern Emergency Operations Center will strengthen our ability to coordinate public safety resources and respond effectively when our community needs us most, and we are grateful to Senator Hurtado for securing this critical $1 million investment in Kingsburg,” Kingsburg Police Chief Shaun Stephens said.
“During a major emergency, having a dedicated and capable Emergency Operations Center can make a meaningful difference in how quickly and effectively agencies work together, and we thank Senator Hurtado for her efforts in bringing this $1 million investment to the Kingsburg community,” Kingsburg Fire Chief Rodnie Roberts said.
Senator Melissa Hurtado is Chair of Senate Budget Subcommittee #4 on State Administration and General Government and currently represents the 16th Senate District in the California Legislature, which includes portions of Fresno, Tulare, Kings and Kern Counties.
