Supporting our Veterans Saskatchewan Veterans Service Club Support Program Benefits River Valley Resilience Retreat

On Sunday, September 27, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Alana Ross, along with local MLAs joined Royal Canadian Legion members and community partners at the River Valley Resilience Retreat (RVRR) facility south of Prince Albert to celebrate the completion of several projects funded in part through the Saskatchewan Veterans Service Club Support Program.

The Government of Saskatchewan has provided $145,000 to River Valley Resilience Retreat (RVRR) since 2021-22 to support facility improvements benefiting veterans, first responders and their families at its permanent facility near St. Louis, Saskatchewan, which has included accessibility renovations and building construction.

This year, 64 Royal Canadian Legion branches, Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans (ANAVETS) units and other registered non-profit veterans organizations across Saskatchewan received $1.45 million through the program. For the third consecutive year, the program was fully subscribed in a single intake.

“Our veterans service clubs and organizations like River Valley Resilience Retreat do important work supporting veterans and their families,” Ross said. “It is rewarding to see how this funding is helping improve facilities and support the work RVRR is doing for veterans, their families and others in the community.”

RVRR is a volunteer-run, peer-based community supporting veterans, first responders, safety personnel and their families. Since 2022, the organization has offered seasonal retreats and weekly peer-support sessions.

“As an organization, we are all connected to Veterans—whether it’s a board member, a family member, or a volunteer,” River Valley Resilience Retreat Executive Director Michelle McKeaveney said. “Lived-experience leadership is central to our credibility, and the support from the Saskatchewan Veteran Services Grant has been vital in helping us provide a safe, secluded, and serene space for Veterans and active service members to rest, recharge, and restore.”

The Saskatchewan Veterans Service Club Support Program supports facility upgrades, events and other activities that advance the work of veterans service organizations and strengthen their long-term sustainability throughout the province.
