Strong and Steady: Saskatchewan Maintains Top Provincial Credit Rating

CANADA, September 14 - Released on September 14, 2026

Once again, Saskatchewan has maintained the highest credit rating among the provinces when the ratings from all three major agencies are considered.

"Today's announcement affirms the major credit rating agencies' continued confidence in Saskatchewan's economy," Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance Jim Reiter said. "A strong economy is what allows us to deliver affordability relief by cutting taxes while making key investments in health care, education and protecting communities."

Moody's Investors Service, Morningstar DBRS (MDBRS) and S&P Global recently affirmed their credit ratings for Saskatchewan, with MDBRS maintaining its AA (low) rating, Moody's maintaining its Aa1 rating and S&P affirming its AA rating. All three agencies assigned a stable outlook, reflecting their continued confidence in Saskatchewan's fiscal strength and manageable debt burden.

"Saskatchewan demonstrates what we view as strong financial management that supports its creditworthiness," S&P Global stated in their report. "In addition to public-sector investment, several large-scale projects are advancing in the private sector, including in mining (potash, uranium, lithium), the agriculture value-added sector and manufacturing, which will support medium-term economic growth."

The 2026-27 Budget builds on the commitments made in The Saskatchewan Affordability Act by implementing the second year of the government's four-year plan to lower provincial income taxes, providing approximately $200 million in tax savings this year, meaning a family of four pays no provincial income tax on their first $65,000 of income, the highest threshold in all of Canada.

Saskatchewan is expected to remain one of the fastest-growing provincial economies over the next two years, with real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth projected to rank third-highest among provinces in 2026 and second-highest in 2027.

Saskatchewan also maintains the second-lowest net-debt-to-GDP ratio among the provinces.
