Roll up your sleeves and lend a hand at Dougnad

A few hours of yard work can make a lasting difference for an older neighbor. 

Douglas County residents are invited to give or receive a helping hand during this fall’s Dougnad volunteer event beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. Volunteers will assist older adults in Castle Rock, Castle Pines, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree and Parker with simple yard work projects such as pulling weeds and hand-pruning plants, planting flowers, and raking leaves. 

Before heading out to serve, volunteers will gather at The Lone Tree Hub, 8827 Lone Tree Parkway in Lone Tree, for a pancake breakfast celebration. Volunteers will receive their project assignments and tools before dispersing throughout the community.

Older adults who could use help preparing their yards for the changing season are also encouraged to participate. Residents age 60 or older may request assistance through the Dougnad webpage or call 303-660-7407 for help registering. County staff will review requests and match eligible households with volunteers. 

Douglas County’s Dougnad program is modeled after the Scandinavian tradition of “dugnad,” which brings family, friends and neighbors together for fellowship and community service. The semiannual event encourages residents of all ages to serve their neighbors and strengthen connections throughout Douglas County.
