Grassley Joins Iowa Law Enforcement Officers for Roundtable Discussion

BUTLER COUNTY, IOWA – U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) joined local and tribal law enforcement leaders from Poweshiek, Jasper, Iowa and Tama counties yesterday for a roundtable discussion in Toledo as part of Grassley’s 99 county meetings. The group discussed community mental health resources, federal public safety investments, no tax on overtime and more.

“Iowa’s brave law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to protect our communities. All Iowans, including myself, owe them a great debt of gratitude,” Grassley said. “I was honored to meet with local law enforcement leaders yesterday to discuss their successes, learn about challenges in their communities and answer their questions. I look forward to bringing these insights back to the policymaking tables in Washington.”

Supporting law enforcement is one of Grassley’s top priorities as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. This Congress, Grassley has advanced several bipartisan bills to back the blue, including legislation to improve officers’ access to mental health resources, speed up critical benefits determinations and stem the flow of contraband in federal prisons. He also spearheaded large sections of Republicans’ Working Family Tax Cuts, which eliminated tax on overtime and provided major investments for local law enforcement.

In Iowa specifically, Grassley has worked alongside community leaders and the Department of Justice to secure over $37.5 million in federal funds this Congress for the state’s law enforcement and public safety initiatives.
