Erdogan Condemns Ongoing Attacks on Civilian Sites in Iran, Lebanon, Gaza
Speaking during an iftar gathering organized for the March 14 Medicine Day at the Faculty of Medicine of Istanbul University, Erdogan warned that violence against hospitals and schools continues to spread across multiple conflict zones.
“A bloodthirsty network continues striking schools and hospitals in Iran and Lebanon as it did in Gaza,” Erdogan said.
Addressing the widening tensions in the Middle East, the Turkish leader emphasized that Türkiye positions itself among the nations promoting restraint and diplomatic engagement rather than military escalation.
“Against this state of madness, Türkiye is among the leading countries defending humanity, advocating reason, and seeking solutions to crises through dialogue and diplomacy,” he said.
Erdogan also spoke about the humanitarian devastation caused by the war in Gaza Strip, saying the conflict has produced scenes that demonstrate a disregard for human life. He described images of civilians caught in the violence, including infants in hospital incubators and children who had gone to school only to be killed in airstrikes.
He further stated that medical personnel were not spared during the fighting, noting that doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers were among those killed. According to his remarks, nearly 1,700 healthcare professionals lost their lives during the war in Gaza due to what he called Israel’s “state terror,” as stated by reports.
The broader regional crisis intensified after joint military strikes by Israel and the United States targeted sites in Iran on Feb. 28, according to reports. The attacks reportedly resulted in more than 1,200 deaths, including the country’s then-supreme leader Ali Khamenei, as well as more than 150 young students at a girls’ elementary school.
In response, Iran has launched drone and missile operations aimed at Israel and several other countries in the region, including Jordan, Iraq, and multiple Gulf states. Iranian authorities say these strikes are directed at “US military assets,” according to reports.
