Starlink Internet for Ukraine Persists Despite Poland’s Veto
Bogucki addressed concerns on social media platform X Monday evening, responding to criticism from Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawkowski. Gawkowski condemned the president’s veto of an amendment to the Act on Assistance to Ukrainian Citizens, warning it jeopardizes Poland’s funding for Starlink, a key source of internet connectivity for Ukraine and its military. He stated that the decision is “shutting down the internet for Ukraine.”
Contradicting this claim, Bogucki clarified that the veto will not halt Starlink services in Ukraine. He emphasized that financing for Starlink will remain in place under the existing law through September 30, and urged parliament to promptly review the president’s proposed bill in September.
Additionally, Bogucki confirmed that President Nawrocki submitted his own legislative draft to the Sejm, Poland’s lower house of parliament. This proposal restricts access to social benefits and healthcare exclusively to Ukrainians employed and contributing to the Polish system.
Nawrocki argued that the “800 plus” child benefit should be limited to children of Ukrainians working in Poland. The vetoed amendment had aimed to extend this benefit to children under 18 who remain in education after completing secondary school.
On a related note, Nawrocki also declared that Polish troops will not be deployed to Ukraine, with Poland’s aid confined to logistical support and reconstruction initiatives.
